The Beginning - Jewellery

Launched in 2009, the KJ label (previously known as KAJAL CREATIONS) emerged from a vision shared by a mother and her two daughters. Rekha has had a lifetime passion for beautifully crafted artistic jewellery from her rich Indian heritage. Her daughters, Jaimini and Kajal Priti (Priti), share the fascination of striking jewellery.

Kajal in Hindi (the national Indian language) translates into the black kohl pencil women use to define their eyes. Kajal (kohl) defines the beauty of the eyes. KJ defines a woman's beauty with accessories.

Each collection is designed in Sydney and crafted by their artisans in India.  The collections are limited to maintain exclusivity of the label, yet available worldwide in the UK, Hong Kong, and Australia.

Style & Quality

Rekha’s passion was further cultivated through training in silver jewellery design making. Jaimini and Priti's interest in creating with glamour and style was further fostered through Jaimini’s completion of the Gemmological Association of Australia (GAA) course in Gemmology and Priti's past internship in PR at Giorgio Armani.

Resort Wear & Active Wear

The KJ label soon expanded into Resort Wear, particularly kaftans and jumpsuits, again weaving their Indian heritage with the use of rich colours, aesthetic prints, and high quality fabrics.

Soon after, the founders own active lifestyles prompted a want for ‘athleisure’ wear well before the catchphrase was coined.

The ‘KJ Fit & Flow’ collection of Resort Wear and Active Wear focuses on quality, functionality, and economical designs.

Travel & Heritage Inspiration

They are continually inspired by the style of women from their base in Sydney, Australia to their extensive travels around the world - from the streets of Manhattan, cafes in Moscow, cocktail lounges in Buenos Aires, gardens in Paris, markets in Prague, bars in Mexico, subways of Tokyo, trendy restaurants in Lisbon, beaches in Maui and more.

All three of them have lived a significant part of their life in Japan (both Jaimini and Priti were born and raised in Japan).  What is noticeable across their collections is the Japanese aesthetic of simplicity and creative art form and the pride of their Indian heritage with vivid colours, intricate designs, and fine fabrics.

Their travels also allow them to personally source high-quality gemstones, pearls, and fabrics to uniquely translate their inspiration into distinctive yet affordable jewellery and clothing; all bearing the signature masterful use of colour and attention of fine detailing.
